At this year’s Mobile World Congress, Amdocs announced that it was entering into a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services to accelerate Communications Service Providers’ transition to the cloud.
Amdocs is a Missouri-based corporation that specializes in creating software solutions for communications, media, and financial service providers. It deals with a number of areas that affect its target industries including the Internet of Things, big data analytics, and network solutions.
By collaborating with AWS, it intends to bring more of its customer base to the cloud by providing support mechanisms to ease the transition from traditional in-house infrastructure to the cloud.
Addressing a Growing Cloud Market Among CSPs
In the announcement, Amdocs cited a survey conducted by Analysis Mason which indicated that by 2022, over 90% of CSP system would operate in the cloud. It went on to predict that 60% of these companies would adopt a hybrid cloud strategy.
In order to capture this growing market, Amdocs and AWS have agreed to collaborate on several key initiatives.
The first being a migration of Amdocs’ own Business Support Systems environments into a hybrid cloud solution. This would enable its existing customers to more easily migrate their Amdocs products to AWS.
Second, Amdocs plans to help CSPs update their infrastructure to outsourced solutions, including specifically AWS. This leverages Amdocs’ AWS Advanced Technology Partner certification.
Finally, Amdocs will create AWS cloud-native solutions CSPs can use to test new solutions. Amdocs said, “Amdocs will use cutting-edge technologies around open source, hyper-scale systems, and elastic network scaling to create AWS cloud-native environments.”
The Amdocs and AWS strategic collaboration has been created to support CSPs as they embark on and accelerate their cloud journey to achieve new levels of business agility, innovation, and cost savings,” said Terry Wise, Global Vice President of Channels and Alliances, Amazon Web Services, Inc.
