We Scan Cloud Service Providers Daily

To Deliver Independent and Unbiased Cloud Insights

Our Process

Market data delivered two months after the close of each quarter is not fast enough for the cloud market. We supply real-time insight, analysis, and data about specific cloud service providers as well as the cloud industry overall.
Research. Our analysts and data scientists work together to create the process and guidance for our automated systems to gather public data directly from CSPs and from other publicly available sources. We are cloud application programming interface (API) experts. We have serious web scraping mojo. And where we have to, we rely on people to fill in the gaps.
Analyze. Our analysts and data scientists normalize and analyze the datasets we collect to determine how the CSPs compare to each other and identify CSP and cloud industry trends. Different datasets are collected on different cadences to capture changing market conditions and technology deployments.
Validate. Our analysts carefully validate our datasets and analysis conclusions to ensure we are providing accurate data and insights to our clients. We look for bias, incompleteness, mismatches in cadence, and many other potential pitfalls to providing robust data and analysis.
Deliver. Our analysts deliver impartial and unbiased insight to our customers via email, videos, and infographics, plus reports and time-series datasets for our Subscription Services.

1. Research

We gather publicly accessible cloud service providers specific and cloud industry data. It may seem easy, but it’s a lot of data from a lot of sources – data collection tools take time to develop and test, and then they must be maintained as APIs and websites change over time.

2. Analyze

We analyze the data collected from our automated cloud tools to develop insights on the performance of cloud service providers and trends for the industry as a whole.

3. Validate

We rigorously check the accuracy and consistency of our datasets for quality assurance. Even with automatically gathered data, sources and data must be corroborated.

4. Deliver

We provide real-time insights and analysis to help inform our readers’ business, technology, and investment decisions.

The Liftr Cloud Distiller

Liftr Cloud Insights takes a data-driven approach to cloud market analysis. At the heart of our data analytics methodology is the Liftr Cloud Distiller, our proprietary service core that compares similar products across the Cloud Index tracked cloud service providers. The Liftr Cloud Distiller enumerates a list of high-value IaaS and PaaS services, which enables in-depth comparisons and analysis of cloud technologies, cloud services, and cloud industry trends.

Our tracking systems are built around the Liftr Cloud Distiller. Cloud Distiller currently tracks and normalizes about 200 unique types of IaaS and PaaS services. We examine each cloud service providers services to equate its services to our normalized services in an unbiased and equitable manner. Some cloud service providers services are complex and map into multiple normalized services, other services map one-to-one. Cloud Distiller is a many-to-many mapping of services that enables us to make a fair “apples-to-apples” assessment of a cloud service providers services offering.

We add new cloud service providers to our tracking products by first adding a cloud provider to Cloud Distiller. Then we deploy process and automation to add the cloud service providers to the Cloud Index and Cloud Regions Map products.

If you are a Cloud Provider interested in being included in Liftr Cloud tracking, for either the Liftr Cloud Index or the Liftr Cloud Components Tracker, please contact us.

Independent and Unbiased Analysis

Liftr Cloud Insights is a service of privately held DoubleHorn, based in Austin, Texas. DoubleHorn operates two lines of business: the cloud service brokerage under the DoubleHorn brand and the cloud research and analysis service under the Liftr Cloud Insights brand. Both product lines operate independently, though Liftr Cloud Insight leverages DevOps talent from DoubleHorn’s professional services team and DoubleHorn occasionally leverages Liftr Cloud Insights’ data science team.

DoubleHorn’s Liftr Cloud Insights service strives to create impartial and unbiased comparisons of cloud service providers (CSPs) and their products and services. In addition to fairly comparing cloud providers, we evaluate our own predictions and forecasts against actual outcomes. We review and update our data sources, algorithms, and methodology several times each year to ensure representativeness and relevance. You may read our corrections policy here.

Liftr Cloud Insights does not create sponsored content. Our posts, articles, whitepapers, reports, podcasts, videos, etc., are solely our analysis and insight. We value our independence and our ability to honestly assess our markets and the vendors who serve those markets. We hope you value our independence, too.
